Dear subscribers to the archeoViz newsletter,
This is the 3rd archeoViz newsletter, for July 2023. Updates are presented below by section.
More generally, feel free to submit any suggestions you may have concerning the application and its interface, data sets to be integrated, or people likely to be interested (write to: archeoviz-maintainers@services.cnrs.fr).
All the best and have a very good summer,
Sébastien

Publications and documentation
The major news regards the creation of a website about the archeoViz ecosystem: https://archeoviz.hypotheses.org
This site aims to present archeoviz in a less technical way than in the package documentation. It also offers various resources, including materials for classes in computationnal archaeology, based on archeoViz.
Recent additions to the archeoViz portal
No new dataset was added to the portal this month, but several are in preparation!
Improvements of the archeoViz application
An important achievement was made in July regarding archeoViz interoperability: data can now be transferred from archeoViz to third party applications. So far, two applications are linked:
- the Seriograph application, a tool to analyse the distribution of object types in a stratigraphy
- the archeofrag application, a tool for refitting analysis
Export options are available, if applicable, in the “Statistics” tab (formerly “Tables” tab). These exports imply that data are sent automatically as tables (consequently, these tables can potentially be downloaded by users). If needed, these export functions can be disabled by setting the new 'export.table'
parameter to FALSE
in the archeoViz()
function.
Links with third-party applications have therefore been disabled by default for archeoViz portal instances whose datasets have not been published elsewhere.
These new features were included in a new release of the package (v1.3.0, DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.8180527).
